His Grace The Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan (2004-2007)

His Grace Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Metropolitan, an outstanding personality remarkable for brilliant ideas and inborn sense of humour, was born in Adangappurath Kalamannil, a family of priestly tradition. Born as the son of Very Rev. K.E. Oommen Kassessa, Vicar general of the Mar Thoma Church and Sosamma of Nadukkeveetil family, Karthikappally on 27th April 1918 Philip Oommen was known as Dharmistan at home.On completion of service as the missionary Bishop he served as the Diocesan Episcopa of Adoor- Kottarakkara. During this period he was the President of Sevika Sanghom, Sunday School Samajam and Kerala Christian Council also. He was the President of CASA as well. From 1975 once again he became missionary Bishop and was head of Thiruvananthapuram – Kollam, Adoor – Mavelikkara, Ranni – Nilackal and Chengannur – Thumpamon Dioceses thereafter. He was our college patron from 2004-2007.

 

His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan (2007 – )

Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan was born in the Maramon Palakunnath family which was the ancestral home of the father of the reformation of the Malankara Church, Abraham Malpan and the first four Metropolitans of the Mar Thoma Church. He was born on 27th June 1931 as the son of Puthoor Mariamma and Lukochen who was the son of Palakunnath Kadon Thomachen, elder brother of Titus II, Mar Thoma Metropolitan. The childhood was formulated in the context of a very noble tradition. After school education in Kozhencherry St. Thomas High School he graduated from UC College Alwaye. Having dedicated himself to serving the Church he passed BD degree from UT College, Bangalore. He was ordained Deacon on 29th June 1957 and Kasessa on 18th October 1957.

He has worked as the President of the Governing Council of St. Thomas College, Kozhencherry, Christian College, Chengannur, Mar Thoma College for Women, MBA College, School Governing Board and Mar Thoma Teachers Training College, Perumbavoor. He was in-charge of Adoor- Mavelikkara Diocese from August 1997. He took the initiative to start nursing schools in Kattanam and Hoskote. His service to organise the Maramon Convention officially and unofficially in the past and at present is commendable. As a man of unique ability to lead Thirumeni pays special attention to the construction activities of the Church. He worked as Chairman of the Sabha Auditorium Fund Committee and gave leadership to collect 84 lakhs. As Chairman he directed the re-publishing of Mar Thoma Vaideeka Directory. In recognition of the distinguished leadership in various fields the Virginia Seminary of America honoured him with a Doctorate. Moreover a second doctorate was bestowed on him by the Serampore University on 10th February 2007 taking into account Thirumeni’s activities in the Church and society. A third Doctorate to honour him was awarded to him by SHIATS Deemed University (Formerly Allahabad Agriculture University) in recognition of his total contribution in the social field.

He was consecrated as the Supreme Head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church on 2nd October 2007. In the words of Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan, Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan is noble in heredity, rich in self acquired abilities, well versed in relations able and talented in construction work and blessed in leadership.

Past Managers

1. Rt. Rev. Geevarghese Mar Athanasius Suffragan Metropolitan (2004 – 2005)

Born on 26th April 1944 as the son of Late Sri. C.I. Idicula and Late Smt. Achiyamma of Nedumpram Christos Mar Thoma Parish Chirayilkandathil C.I. George completed High School education from TMT High School Neerattupuram. After obtaining BSc Degree from Mar Thoma College, Thiruvalla he was called upon to save the Church as a priest and got BD Degree from Leonard Theological College, Jabalpur in 1969.

He was ordained Semmas on 3rd May 1969 and Kassesa on 14th June 1969. He served thereafter Palakkad, Olavakkod, Karimba, Nelliyambathy, Attappadi, Kozhinjampara, Kuzhalmannam, Mumbai, Dadar, Toronto, Venmoney Sehion, Kottayam Jarusalem, Madras Chetpet, Edayaranmula, Laka Senthom, Kurichimuttom and various other Parishes illustriously. While in Canada he did higher studies in Wycliffe College, Toronto (1975-76). He was selected as Bishop while serving in Edayaranmula parish. He was consecrated as Ramban on 4th November 1989 at the Kottarakkara Mar Thoma Convention ground along with Rev. Dr. George Jacob (Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa and Rev. Euyakim I. Cheeran (Euyakim Mar Coorilos Episcopa) and as Episcopa with the name Geevarghese Mar Athanasius on 9th December 1989 at Thiruvalla SCS ground. He was assigned to be the head of Mumbai – Delhi Diocese. He served as head of Kottayam-Kochi Diocese from 1993 November to September 2001 and from 2001 October continues to head Ranni – Nilackal Diocese. In 2015 October 2nd, Tirumeni was installed as the Suffragan Metropolitan of the Church.

Thirumeni was incharge of various organizations and projects of the Church. Chairman of Titus II Teachers Training College Governing Board and Vaidika Seminary, President of Suvisesha Sevika Sanghom, Sunday School Samajam, Vaidika Selection Committee, Sabha Directory Committee, Vaidika Conference Committee, Manager Perumbavoor Women’s College, President National Missionary Society (1990-93) these are some of the posts held by Thirumeni. He was able to establish an MBA College in Perumbavoor namely Mar Thoma College of Management and Technology when he was President of Suvisesha Sevika Sanghom. He gave leadership to renovate and reconstruct Kalliseri Kadavil Malika, the birth place of Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association. He was Chairman of Development Department, Sabha Tharaka, Service Commission, Cherukole ITC, Edakulam Teacher’s Training College, Sabha Steering Committee and Manager of Thiruvalla Mar Thoma College and Kozhencherry St. Thomas College.

3. Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus Suffragan Metropolitan (2008 – 2011)

Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus Suffragan Metropolitan belongs to the Mattackal Venparampil family of the Niranama Jerusalem Mar Thoma Parish. Born on 29th August 1938 as the son of Sri V.K. Oommen and Smt. Mariamma Oommen having a brother and three sisters. Thirumeni was a personality searching for new path for spiritual activities by a perfect combination of knowledge and experience amidst contrasts and diversities. Appealing personality, warmth of friendly relations and an affinity for new ideas in theological thinking make Thirumeni different from others and at the sametime make him very dear to all without any difference in age.

He served as head of North America – Europe Diocese spreading all over North America, Canada UK and Germany from 1993 to 2001 staying in New York. Under his leadership this Diocese achieved tremendous development. In 1997 the Mar Thoma Church became a member of National Council of Churches of Christ in USA. Mar Thoma congregations were formed in Germany and Switzerland. Arrangements were made for shepherding the Diaspora community in Africa, Australia and New Zealand. He worked as head of Chennai-Bangalore Diocese from 2001 to 2005. He gave monumental leadership during this period for mission activities in Karnataka, Andhra and Tamil Nadu states. During this period he was President of Mar Thoma Suvisesha Sevika Sanghom. In 2005 he took charge of Chengannur – Mavelikkara Diocese. In order to broaden the activities of Narasapuram, the mission field of the Diocese land was bought and school and clinic were started. Karuthal – Cancer care and Counselling Centre was started. He served as president of Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists Association. As President of the Committee to build homes for the homeless as the Navathy Project of Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Metropolitan he gave leadership to build 2059 houses.

 

4. Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Timotheos Episcopa (2011-2016)

Thomas Mar Timotheos Episcopa with a personality that is the sum total of energetic personal superiority, committed style of functioning and calm and meek behaviour was born as the son of Mulakuzha Angadical South Kaleekkal Thekkethil Lovedale Rev. K.N. George and Rachel George on 13th December 1950. He had his school education in Venmoney, Kaviyoor, Thalavoor, Angadical South and Kidangannoor. He had his BA from Christian College Chengannur and MA from Sardar Patel University, Gujarat in English language and literature. After teaching in Lunavada and Modasa Colleges under Gujarat Univesity from 1974 to 1979 he joined United Theological College, Bangalore and took BD Degree. He was ordained Semmas on 28th May 1983 and Kaseessa on 10th June by Thomas Mar Athanasius Suffragan Metropolitan at St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church, Thiruvalla. He served Surat, Vapi, Valsad, Angaleswar, Beruch, Tharapur, Gudallur, Philadelphia Bethel in America, Kochukoickal, Kottamanpara and Moonnukal Parishes. He was the Principal of St. Thomas English Medium School, Gudallur. He obtained M Th degree from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Mar Thoma Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam selected Rev. K. Thomas George as Episcopa. He was consecrated as Ramban on 31st August 1993 at Mavelikkara Mar Thoma Church by Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus Thirumeni along with Rev. Joseph Jacob and Rev. Dr. A.I Isac.

On 2nd October 1993 he was consecrated as Episcopa with the name Thomas Mar Timotheos by His Grace Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Metropolitan at the temporary Madbaha prepared at the SCS Compound, Thiruvalla.

Dr. Rajan Varughese, Founder Director (2005-2017)

Dr. Rajan Varughese, founder Director and Principal, Marthoma College of Management and Technology is Ph.D., in Statistics from the Cochin University of Science and Technology.
He served the Union Christian College, Aluva as Reader, Professor, Dean of Administration and Development and was Principal during 1995-2000. From 2000 to 2003 he was the Principal of the Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor. He was an N.C.C Officer holding the rank of Major and contributed to the colleges through memberships in the different administrative bodies. He has initiated and established Communication and Information Technology Centres with accreditation of DOEACC Society of the Government of India in both the Colleges. He founded the U.C.College Nature Action Group and Mountaineering Club and was a Member of the Government of India’s Paryavaran Vahini, Ernakulam District.
He was a Member of the Syndicate of the Mahatma Gandhi University during 1996-2000 and served the University as Convenor of Standing Committees of the Syndicate on Affiliation, Academic, Research and Finance. He was a member of the Academic Council of M G University. He is on the panel of Assessors of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission from 1998 and has served in the Peer Teams of over 200 colleges in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharghand, Goa, West Bengal, Orrissa and Andhra Pradesh. U.C.College was accredited as the first ‘Five Star’ graded college in Kerala and Mar Thoma College for Women was accredited with B Grade under his stewardship. He was selected for the prestigious award of Fulbright Fellowship for Educational Administration by the USEFI in 2000.
He has undertaken number of research projects in varied areas and was the Principal Investigator of a “Multi-Country International Collaborative Research Project” with the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Cairo, Egypt. He has designed and developed number of ERP software projects for different aspects of Educational System Administration and Management and is a consultant for application of Technology in Higher Education.
He was the Kerala State Coordinator of Census of Nilgiri Tahr at Eravikulam National Park, Munnar from 2005 to 2016 and has developed a Census Methodology used by the Kerala Forest Department.
He has undertaken projects on Statistical Survey of Wildlife at Periyar Sanctuary, Census of Nilgiri Tahr at Eravikulam National Park, Environmental awareness camps for college and University students of Kerala held at Silent Valley National Park and Eco System studies including ‘Census of Tigers and their Natural Prey’ of the Periyar Tiger Reserve.
He was instrumental for the construction of the 3 storeyed College building and Hostel building were constructed. Construction of Basketball court and renovation of Asramam building were also undertaken during his period. MCMAT has achieved Platinum Category status (Institutes that are strongly linked to Industry) in the AICTE-CII Survey of Industry Linked Technical Institutes-2016 while he was Director/ Principal.

 

Dr. Thomas Joseph, Former Director and Principal (2017-2018)

Dr. Thomas Joseph is the former Director and Principal of MCMAT Perumbavoor. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Strategy and International Business at the Indian Institute of Management Udaipur. His areas of Research, Teaching and Consulting include Strategy Formulation, Strategy Execution, Performance Management, and International Business Strategy. He is an electrical engineer and also a Fellow (Ph.D.) of IIM Bangalore in the area of Corporate Strategy and Policy. He had undergone executive education at Harvard Business School at Boston; Ross School of Business, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor; Max Planck Institute at Berlin; and a doctoral student exchange program with WHU Business School at Koblenz, Germany. Prior to his current role, Dr. Thomas was a full time Associate Professor of Business Policy and Strategy at IIM Udaipur since 2012. He was heading the global strategy department of UAE Exchange, Abu Dhabi for four years from 2008 to 2012. He was also an adjunct faculty of business and management in the University of Wollongong in Dubai from 2010-2012. Prior to that, he had worked with Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited (IPCL), Apollo Tyres Ltd and Binani Zinc Ltd for about 12 years. He has published articles in American Economic Journal-Applied Economics, South Asian Journal of Management, International Journal of Selection and Assessment etc. He was selected as the Best Strategy Professor by Headlines Today in 2009. The initiative “RACE” pioneered by him at UAE Exchange won the first Positive Business Award by University of Michigan in 2014.  Currently, he is serving as a member, Kerala State Innovation Council. Being a sports enthusiast, he captained IPCL in the PSCB National badminton championship in Goa, 2000.

Dr. S Prabakar, Former Director and Principal (2018-2019)

Dr. S. Prabakar is a Post Graduate in Social Work with Labour Welfare, Industrial Relations and Personnel Management as specialization, in Labour Management and Business Administration, with specialization in Marketing and HR. He is a Doctorate in Human Resource Management. He has a corporate experience of about 8 years, holding various positions in HR and Public Relations. He has 20 years of academic experience in the Department of MBA, as Professor and Director. As of now, he has produced 5 M.Phil. scholars under Karpagam University and 5 Ph.D. scholars under Anna University, Chennai. He is an External Examiner for Ph.D. Viva-Voce examination for Anna, Annamalai, Mother Theresa, Karpagam and Vinayaka Missions University. He is also a Doctoral Committee Member for the Ph.D. scholars of different Universities. He has published around 50 articles in National and International Journals and Magazines of repute. He is a regular columnist in “The Education Plus”, now called as “The Edge” in the “The Hindu” newspaper of Coimbatore edition. He has also given speeches on Management related topics, in All India Radio, Coimbatore and local Gnanavani stations on Higher/Management education programmes. He is an exemplary speaker on various management topics, particularly in HR. He is known for his qualities of being a good teacher, mentor, coach and guide to the faternity of Management Studies.
